Viola Buitoni, chef instructor and food writer, was born in Rome and raised in Perugia, Italy. With stories and knowledge from six generations, her cooking crosses the best of California agriculture with the finest of Italian food imports. She is currently authoring Italy by Ingredient to be published by Rizzoli USA in the spring of 2023. Since 2009 she has lectured and taught Italian cooking and food culture workshops in the Bay Area and around the country. She leads immersive food workshops in Italy, and is a regular contributor to “La Cucina Italiana” ( and to “Italy Segreta” ( In 2021 she was knighted Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella (Order of the Star of Italy) by the president of the Italian Republic for her work to further and support Italian food in the world.

Today Viola will present her project and upcoming book, and share how six generations of family business traditions and a lifetime of passion for food played into shaping the path of her work.
