IC Speaker Series
History of China’s Italian Postmaster General
1/6 Zoom-only@1 pm

January 6, 2022 @ 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Evaristo Caretti (1874-1955) was a Piemontese man who traveled to China as an ordinary seaman in the Italian Navy, and stayed to eventually become the Postmaster General of China. This was the highest position any Westerner ever achieved in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was an avid collector of Chinese art, especially Chinese snuff bottles, of which he collected over 700. He donated much of his Chinese Art to the Museo Orientale of Torino. His life and adventures were truly amazing.

Cenacolista Vince Fausone is a retired Italian-American obstetrician/gynecologist and a graduate of UC Berkeley and UCSF. He is the past president of the Society for Asian Art, the International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society and the Museo Italo Americano of San Francisco. Currently, he is on the Board of the Piemontesi nel Mondo of Northern California, the Museo Italo American and the San Francisco Leonardo da Vinci Society. He has been an avid collector of Chinese Snuff Bottles for over 40 years.
