"Itala Gente Dalle Molte Vite"

Founded in 1928, IL CENACOLO is the preeminent Italian cultural club in San Francisco. A private men's club with over two hundred lively and diverse members, it carries on a tradition of camaraderie and service to the arts begun over eight decades ago. The club supports the San Francisco Opera Merola Program and Italian language instruction in local schools. It annually awards two scholarships in support of Adler Singers training at the San Francisco Opera, and annually awards a scholarship stipend to an undergraduate Italian scholar from among the local universities.

Meetings for members are held hebdomadally at the Fior d'Italia, 2237 Mason Street in San Francisco. They run from noon to one-thirty every Thursday and feature a wide variety of speakers on topics of interest to Italians and Italophiles (ranging from opera to Italian culture and history, Italian food, wine, architecture and art) or of interest about Northern California and San Francisco (history of the Bay Area, preservation, significant scientific developments at our two great universities, Berkeley and Stanford), among others. The cost is $35, inclusive of wine, tax and tip. No charge for the fun!
