January 12, 2012: Sebastian Fichera Sebastian Fichera was born in 1947 in Sicily and immigrated to the US with his family in 1956. He holds a BA from Syracuse University and earned his Doctorate in History in 1981 from UCLA. He also worked as an assistant and then manager for the Italian Cemetery in Colma, and is currently seeking a teaching position at the University level.
Mr. Fichera has just published the book Italy on the Pacific: San Francisco's Italian Americans (Macmillan & Company). Although his book details the Italian immigrant experience in San Francisco from the Gold Rush to the mayoralty of George Moscone, in his presentation he intends to emphasize the activities of the Fascist Party in northern California before the entry of the United States into WWII. His presentation promises to be very informative about the Italian community's recent history in North Beach - a subject close to many of our hearts. Copies of this book will be available for purchase.
