November 3: Bart Ney
An urban planner by training, Bart has made his most substantial contributions in the field of public communications by developing and implementing strategic communications plans for some of California's largest infrastructure projects. Working with Caltrans for the Toll Bridge Program, Bart has rewritten the book on how to engage the public and inform the media, including using simulation tools and broadcast-quality video for outreach efforts. His communications teams have won numerous awards, such as an international award for Best Government Website for baybridge360.org. Bart has appeared in documentaries produced by National Geographic, the BBC, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, and others and has coauthored and coproduced books and documentary films on the construction of the Carquinez Bridge and the West Approach of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. He also played a key role in the opening of both the Alfred Zampa Memorial Bridge and the new West Approach to the Bay Bridge. Bart is currently the spokesman for the Toll Bridge Program in California and the chairman of a multi-agency communications team representing Caltrans, the Bay Area Toll Authority and the California Transportation Commission.
