Nickolas Marinelli serves as Director of Community Relations for the Italian Cemetery in Colma. His mission is to help Italian-Americans reconnect with and embrace their Italian heritage. With the support of the Italian Consulate, he has been holding “Italian Citizenship and Dual Citizenship Workshops” to assist those who desire to learn basic genealogy, as well as those who wish to claim Italian Citizenship via jure sanguinis. There has been a surge of interest in genealogy in the Italian American Community, due in large part to the increased interest in acquiring Italian citizenship. Nickolas will explain how the two are related and how he has been making it a little easier to navigate the process.
With over 15 years experience in tracing Italian roots, Nickolas assists others in finding their ancestors, as well as the documentation necessary to prove their claim to the Italian government. He will present an introduction to the subject, and will be holding a full six-hour workshop at the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club on April 23rd. Nickolas Marinelli is perhaps best known for his weekly column “Nella Nostra Colonia,” which appears in L’Italo-Americano, the newspaper for California’s Italian-American community, which has been publishing continuously since 1908 and has a circulation of over 30,000 readers.
