Mr. Mansouri was allowed by his parents to leave his native Iran in order to study medicine at UCLA. He made a noble effort but fell in love with music and the rest is history. At UCLA his music director cast him as a tenor opposite Carol Burnett and the thus began his illustrious career. Following was a movie role as Caruso and invitations to direct opera in Los Angeles. He was soon appointed stage director for the Zurich Opera, thence to Geneva, followed by rising prominence as a guest director at La Scala in Milan and other Italian and European Opera houses. He became director of the Toronto Opera, which he elevated to new heights, followed by surpassing results as director of the San Francisco Opera. He has a new book release: Lotfi Mansouri, an Operatic Journey.
