Thursday, January 14, 2010 An accomplished educator and lecturer, our visiting university professor from Eugene, Oregon, Vincenza Scarpaci, will describe her latest publication The Journey of the Italians in America. This prolific author of four notable books on Italian Immigrants - Little Italies in North America (1981), Italian Immigrants in Louisiana Sugar Parishes. . . (1981), A Portrait of Italians in America (1982) and The Journey. . . (2008) will enlighten us on new aspects of the rich heritage brought to these shores by our forefathers. Born in Brooklyn, New York, this daughter of a Sicilian immigrant grew up in an Italian-speaking household. After graduating from Hofstra University with a degree in history, she received her Ph.D. in U.S. history from Rutgers University with a specialty in immigration history. An accomplished educator and lecturer, Professor Scarpaci began teaching at the university level in 1966 and has since taught numerous courses on American and immigration history at such institutions as the University of Oregon, Seton Hall University, and Towson State University in Baltimore, Maryland. We are all sure to find her presentation interesting if not thoroughly educational.
