Starting 2010 with an upbeat financial note, we will have a presentation by the noted biographer T.J. Stiles about his new publication: The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt (2009). The current San Franciscan - yet born and raised in Minnesota - is also the author of Jesse James: Last Rebel of the Civil War. Having won the National Book Award for The First Tycoon, Mr. Stiles promises to give us an enticing summary - seven years in the making - of how Commodore Vanderbilt was able to amass such a fortune and reputation.
