The precursor company that eventually became Chevron began drilling for oil in Pico Canyon in Southern California in 1865. This organization grew with California to become a global presence. The presentation will focus on Chevron's origins in California and the important early commercial and cultural impacts that the company made in the West.
John Harper is a trained historian who joined Texaco Inc. in 2000 and became the Chevron Corporate Historian when Chevron bought Texaco in 2001.
